Today's topic:Thoughts of Ah Meng's Departure

Dear diary,

today I am going to talk about Ah Meng's departure. I felt very sad when I heard the news that Ah Meng had passed. I believed that when you asked Singaporeans or even tourists about the zoo, the first thing they will tell you is Ah Meng. I recalled that when i was about 4 or 5 years old, my cousin and I took a photo with Ah Meng. When I see the picture now, I think of my childhood. My impression on Ah Meng was a very friendly Orang Utan.

When I listen to the radio, I heard a lot of people sending their regards to Singapore. Some of them also said that why should Ah Meng have such a grand funeral when it is just an Orang Utan.

1. She is not just an ORDINARY Orang Utan. She is the icon of the singapore zoo.

2. What is wrong with putting up with a GRAND funeral for animals.

Anyway, after Ah Meng passed away, zoo keepers have been searching for the next ICON of Singapore.

This are some of the candidates:

1. Pedro the otter

2. Omar the white tiger

3. Chomel the Orang Utan

4. Chawang the elephant

5.Inuka the polar bear

I think that Chomel should be the next icon. She is the closest to Ah Meng and i believed that she will be as good as Ah Meng. Other candidates are either too old or too fierce and unfriendly to humans. Even though there will be the second icon, I believed that Ah Meng will be etched in our hearts as singapore's icon forever.

p.s A durian tree was planted beside Ah Meng's grave as she loved to eat durian when she was alive. (:

Dear Journal,(No choice, journal writing have to start with this phrase)

Today I am going to talk about my Chinese New Year holidays. So far, this was my favourite Chinese New Year holiday even though I did not get enough sleep): My favourite day was on the second day of Chinese New year. Eunice, Lu Hsuan, Huai Hui and Eva went to my house. YAYS! We( but mostly I) played with my little cousin, JOEL! He is only 3 years old. SO cute! I teach him to say Happy New Year to them. I enjoyed the buffets and my salad prawns! and the pineapple rice too. Eunice keep warning me about the cholestrol but who cares, its NEW YEAR! So, i continued eating. Eunice, Lu Hsuan, Huai Hui and Eva took some photos in my room with some stupid things as accessories like clothes hanger, iron, chocolates and eye mask. While Lu Hsuan was holding the chocolates, she kept eating it. HAHA. Soon, the lion dance was here. My mother and father bought 2 boxes of bomb bag to throw at the lion dance. Mostly, the bomb bags was thrown by my brother. The lion dancer were very pissed off becuase of the bomb bags that kept blocking its way. Later, the lion dancers wanted to get revenge but my brother was not around at home. TOO BAD. haha.

The fourth day of chinese new year was fun too. Our family went to my father's friend house warming cum chinese new year party. Their lion dance was much interesting and exciting then ours. After the journal, i shall post some pictures and videos of the lion dance but it is quite unclear. Then other friend of my father(again), was using the computer as he was webcamming with his son who was only 15 years old and he receive a scholarship and now at America. I can se that their parents really missed him. He recieved scholarship for volin and he was at the music school there. I WANT TO GO THERE TOO. It looks fun there but lonely):. Got to practice harder for my piano skills. WORKING TOWARDS FOR GRAND PIANO!!!! I shall end my post here, too long.):

Here are some pictures of lion dance last year.

Title: Question 3: Write about the last family meeting you attended (300-400 words)

“Get changed! Quick! You wouldn’t want to be late right?” my mum exclaimed.
.
It was my great-grandmother birthday today. I changed into my brightly-coloured clothes immediately. I hopped into the car where my sister, Vivian, and her husband Jiro, were already seated with my grandparents and my parents. We then set off to our great- grandmother’s house.

In a few minute’s time, we reached our great- grandmother’s house. My sister and I were very excited to see our great-grandmother as she had been very nice to us and we had not seen her for months. My brother-in-law bought a big birthday cake for her.

“Happy birthday!” we shouted.

My great-grandmother smiled and invited us into the house. It was bustling with laughter in the house. I had not seen such a big gathering for months. Then, I saw the twins, my niece and nephew. They were already walking. The last time I saw them, they were still infants. “Time flies,” I whispered to myself and heaved a sigh.

“Where’s the buffet? It thought you were supposed to order it?” my first uncle interrogated my second aunt.

“No! I thought you were supposed to order it?” my second aunt rebutted.

“So there is no food?” my third uncle bellowed.

My first uncle and second aunt started bickering. In the meantime, my brother-in-law quickly telephoned his friend, Chun, who was working in the catering company.

Fortunately, with the help of my brother-in-law, we got the buffet in time. The buffet looked sumptuous and lip-smacking. There was a pot of red-hot curry, piping-hot fried rice, sweet chocolate éclairs and a plate of succulent beef steak. Everyone thanked my brother-in-law for his help. After the buffet, it was time to sing the birthday song and cut the cakes.

There were five cakes altogether. Everyone giggled but was very happy. My great-grandmother blew out all the 80 candles altogether. Even though there was a little conflict at the party, I still enjoyed the party very much. This unforgettable family meeting will be etched in my mind forever.
